Media Coursework Report Essay For my AS Media coursework, I chose to use fashion as the genre of my magazine. To help with my pre-production, I had to perform my own qualitative and quantitative research into fashion magazines and find out what my target audience of 15-19 year old girls would want from it. I went on to create the preliminary products which included the front cover and contents page, and from these the main products which were the alternative front cover and double page spread. These were all produced using Photoshop. I began by creating a questionnaire, as this is an effective way of finding out what my target audience will be looking for in a fashion magazine. I included 8 questions which asked some general questions into what the participant is interested in, and some into what they would like to see in a fashion magazine, to help me create my front cover and contents page. I gave 20 questionnaires out to other students aged 16-19 as this fits my target audience. By analysing the results of the questionnaire, I found out a range of information to help my design my front cover. The participants chose  £2.50 as the appropriate price and for the magazine to be produced monthly, which I will apply when creating the front cover. 80% of participants said they would be more likely to pick up the magazine if there was a celebrity on the cover. Therefore, I will ask a friend to pose as a celebrity to make it more appealing to my target audience. 50% of participants wanted to see interviews in the magazine and 30% wanted genre-specific features (in this case, it will be fashion, clothes etc.) which I will make sure to include in the contents page. I formed a focus group with other AS Media students in my class. They were all females, ranged from the ages 16-17, and had an interest in fashion, making them representative of my target audience. I asked them if I should put just one image on the front cover, or add smaller ones around the page to show what’s included inside. The feedback I received was very helpful, and led me to use just the one main photo for my preliminary front cover and  my main front cover, to keep the brand consistent. This keeps it looking professional and stops the page from looking overcrowded and trashy. By textually analysing fashion magazines currently on the market, I discovered a recurring theme among them. The bigger magazines (Vogue, Elle) have been around for much longer, and their cover stars overlap the masthead. However, when analysing Look, I noticed that the masthead overlapped the cover star, suggesting that this magazine is new and lesser known. From this, I decided to have the whole masthead of my magazine visible by audiences for my preliminary front cover as it is new and allows audiences to recognise the brand in future. I then chose to overlap part of the masthead on my main front cover with the cover star, as it is a later issue and audiences should then be able to recognise it. The content analysis allowed me to see what’s included in fashion magazines. This helped when compiling the contents page. Obviously the main part of a fashion magazine is the fashion itself. However, it also includes items related to hair and beauty, interviews, articles, advice and special features. I made sure to include all of these when designing my contents page, but I chose to keep the main focus on fashion. I decided to target my magazine towards teenage girls aged between 15 and 19. I thought this was a good range, as girls in their teens will have a more developed sense of style. From my institutional research, I discovered that many fashion magazines were targeted towards women in their 20s and 30s, and decided to aim mine at a teenage audience. Audiences for fashion magazines such as Vogue and Elle were predominantly female; therefore it was important to include items in the contents and on the cover that would attract a female audience. I also tried to use feminine colours where appropriate in the magazine to indicate the target audience. I also made sure my focus group was a good representation of my target audience, thus making sure they had a clear interest in fashion and fit the age category, which they did. I created my preliminary and main products using Adobe Photoshop which had all the necessary tools I needed to create a realistic and professional  magazine. By comparing my magazine in relation to Vogue, I am able to see the strengths and weaknesses of my production. I began by selecting the images I would use for each page. I used a Fujifilm Finepix S2950 to capture the photos. The models used direct mode of address as this is the most effective way of attracting the audience. I used a hairdryer to create the effect of wind blowing the model’s hair. I chose to use an image with a light background, with a model wearing spring clothing. I think this helped to make the cover look more professional as Vogue often incorporates the colours of the magazine to fit the season. I increased the contrast of the image to make it look brighter and more appealing. I then went on to create puffs around the image, and used only ‘Century Gothic’ font to keep it simple and sophisticated. I used a dark blue for the text as it contrasted well with the pink clothing that the model wore. I made sure to include small details as well, including the bar code, price and date to make the product more realistic. I was very pleased with the outcome of my preliminary front cover as it looked professional in relation to magazines on the market today, and had a similar style to that of Vogue magazine. My next task was the contents page, and from the research I did I was able to see what needed to be included. I wanted to keep it consistent, and so I used the same masthead from the front cover and used it at the top of the contents page. This was used in InStyle’s contents page. I also used the same colour scheme as the front cover, to show that the two are related. I kept the text in columns and split the content into sections, which is what I noticed InStyle and Vogue did when I researched them. I also noticed in the Vogue contents page that there was some information about the front cover image, so I decided to include that in my own, with information on where to buy the clothes. I was quite pleased with the result of my contents page, as I spent a lot of time on it. However, I felt that there was too much white space that could have been filled in. It may have been a good idea to add in some borders to give the page some depth. For the alternative cover, I made sure I kept the same font style and size for my masthead. This is because it is important to keep the brand recognisable. I asked my focus group if this was a good idea and they  agreed, saying it would keep it consistent and professional. All magazines do this, but fashion magazines such as Vogue and Elle often change the colour every month to fit with the theme. I have decided to do the same in my own production, by changing the colour of the masthead and the puffs to a maroon colour, to tie in with the month and season. It also contrasted well with the cover model’s blue dress. Like Vogue, I made sure I kept three puffs around the edges of the main image, to stop them from overlapping. I am really pleased with the outcome of this as I think it could pass as a real magazine. I then went on to create the double page spread in A3 size, and selected my image to cover the whole background. This meant there was no white space left around the edges, but there was still space to put some text. I wanted the image to take up dominant space on the page to catch the reader’s eye, which is what I noticed was used in Vogue’s double page spread. I brightened the image and removed some blemishes on the model to try and reach a flawless image, as perfection is one of the main selling points for a fashion magazine. I set the text out in two columns, as this is the layout that most magazines use, including Vogue. I used ‘Rage Italic’ for the headline, which is what I used for the headline on the cover, to keep a consistent house style. I also added page numbers to the bottom corners, as these small details help to build up a realistic product. I feel that my magazine is very similar to a professional product and would stand out in the market place. It follows the codes and conventions of a typical fashion magazine, and is aesthetically pleasing for the target audience. If I were to change anything, I would make the front cover masthead slightly larger, to make it more eye-catching.

The â€Å"helmet of Salvation† and the â€Å"breastplate of Righteousness† are included in the Messianic prophecy of Isaiah 59:17. A Roman Soldier was known as a legionary. There were also other Roman Soldiers called auxiliaries who included the Roman Cavalry. Roman Soldiers came from all over the Roman Empire. Their job was to defend Rome and fight to conquer new lands to add to the Roman Empire. Roman Soldiers, once they joined the Roman Army had to serve for twenty-five years. Roman Soldiers served in a unit known as a century. If a Roman Soldier was promoted to be the leader of a century of soldiers he was known as a Centurion. A century of Roman Soldiers consisted of approxiamately 80 men – so to be a Centurion and lead this many men was an important job in the Roman Army. Roman Soldiers were only promoted to be Centurions if they were clever, brave, good fighters and obeyed orders. There were 59 centuries of Roman Soldiers in a legion. In total the Roman Army consisted of about 30 legions. A Roman soldier's three main weapons were a short sword for stabbing, called a Gladius, a long iron, throwing spear called a Pilum, and a large rectangular shield. The shield was used for defence, to protect the Roman Soldiers body but also could be a very effective weapon, when needed. Roman Soldiers had to carry their own weapons, food and camping and sleeping equipment. They often had to march up to twenty miles a day carrying all this so it was important that they were strong and fit. Roman Soldiers trained together and were prepared for battle. They learned strategies and tactics to enable them to fight together as a single unit. The devil shows us this even in the story of Job, when he was in the presence of God and was asked where he came from, he responded by saying, to and fro, seeking who I may devour. The enemy is seeking constantly who he can keep out of the Kingdom and render ineffective.This affects evangelism head on, because if he can render us ineffective, he can cause our witness to be tampered with. Just think, you know in your personal lives that there are people who claim to be Christians and their lifestyles do not add up. Once they begin to minister or evangelize, their witness is tampered by their actions or lifestyle thus rendering them ineffective. The Devil has many devices that he uses to fight us and to try to render us Ineffective. He always uses accusations to hold us back from evangelize.You know the times hen he brought up your past which caused you to pay m ore attention to your past than your present state of forgiveness. He uses temptation to keep us away from God's will. The Devil knows exactly what causes you to take your mind off God and he will keep that in front of you constantly. He uses deception to make us doubt our effectiveness and distraction to keep our minds off of the things of God. We cannot fight the Devil with physical weaponry, however, we combat the enemy through prayer, fasting, and reading the Word of God.We render the devices of the enemy Ineffective once we keep God In the forefront. We cannot be effective In evangelism If we allow the Devil to wrap our minds around him. That Is his ultimate goal, to keep our minds on him and our downfalls. What Are Invasive Species

One of our top environmental issues, invasive species get relatively little attention. First, we need to differentiate a few terms. A species referred to as alien or non-native is found outside of its natural geographic range. Exotic means practically the same thing. The alien designation generally implies that humans were instrumental in moving it to its new location. Some species naturally expand into new areas, and those are not considered alien. Another term frequently employed is feral. Feral animals are wild individuals belonging to a species that is domesticated. There exists colonies of feral cats, packs of feral dogs, and many regions  have problems with feral pigs, and even with feral goats and cattle. An invasive species is an alien species that heavily colonizes an area, causing harm to the environment, to human health, or to the economy. Not every organism has the potential to become invasive if transplanted in a new area. Some characteristics facilitate that kind of behavior. For example, invasive plants tend to grow rapidly, produce seeds quickly and abundantly, and have the ability to disperse far and wide (think of dandelion seeds).   Ã‚   Just as organisms vary in their capacity to become invasive, ecosystems vary in their vulnerability to invasive species. Most likely to harbor invasive species are islands, areas that have been disturbed (for example, road sides), and places that are highly diverse. How Do Invasions Happen? One or more factors may be at play, allowing an alien species to become invasive. Sometimes a species makes it to new shores without the predator or competitor that holds them in check in their native range. For example, a marine alga, , is invasive in the Mediterranean, but is controlled by a snail and by other grazers in its native Caribbean Sea. Other species exploit resources that are unavailable to local species. Tamarix, or saltcedar, is an invasive tree in the desert Southwest US, and it uses its long tap roots to reach zones saturated with groundwater but too deep for other plants. Invasions rarely take off after just a handful of plants or animals of one species are introduced in a new area. The species is often present in really small numbers for many years before it suddenly expands its range. Scientists are not certain why, but it could be that this lag time may allow the species to adapt to the new environment, perhaps hybridizing with a native species. Over that period of lag time, new individuals continue arriving, providing more genetic material and thus better equipping the invasive species for conditions in the new environment. What Drives Invasions? We use the term vector to describe the method by which invasive species make it to new areas. Many plants arrive through agricultural or horticultural activities. Sometimes called escapees, ornamental outdoor plants can start growing outside of the landscaped front yard they were planted in. Boxes and containers holding cargo can hold stowaways, as we are periodically reminded when we hear news stories of shaken customers finding tropical spiders in their grapes or bananas. The emerald ash borer, an insect decimating ash trees in North America, probably arrived from Asia in wooden pallets and boxes used as cargo crating. In the marine world, ships’ ballast tanks are often blamed for holding water containing alien species that can become invasive. This is probably how zebra mussels made it to North America. Ultimately, the main driver of invasions is trade. Increased purchasing power, reduced trade barriers, and delocalized manufacturing centers have all led to an increasingly global economy. Net US imports have grown by over ten times since the 1970s, facilitating the movement of cargo and people around the world, along with many plants and animals eager to get a fresh start somewhere new.

US Border Patrol: Pros ; Cons Essay The U.S. Border Patrol is the organization that polices the entry of illegal immigrants into our country. The official mission of the United States Border patrol is to protect the boundaries of the United States by preventing illegal entry, and by detecting, interdicting, and apprehending illegal aliens, smugglers, and contraband. Today, the United States Border Patrol consists of 21 sectors. Each sector is headed by a chief patrol agent. There are 145 stations located throughout the continental United States, and in Puerto Rico. The Border Patrol controls the border by land, sea, and air. The Border Patrol has jurisdiction across all United States borders and at least 25 miles off the border. The Border Patrol agents are responsible to check factories for illegal workers. As of September of 1995, the Border Patrol had 530 agents. The Border Patrols efforts may be sufficient but many people believe that there are many problems in the methods of the Border Patrol. First, many people think that all of the equipment is costing the taxpayers too much. An estimation by TIME magazine states that in California alone, $400 million is spent on healthcare for illegal immigrants. CNN says that the care of illegal immigrants in one hospital in Jacksonville, Florida costs taxpayers $44.5 million. A Federal Government estimate says that $1.6 billion dollars is spent on the education of illegal immigrants each year in California alone. Just think of how much money is spent on illegal immigrants across the country. Now this is just the cost of the immigrants that get through the border patrol. These costs could be greatly lowered if the Border Patrol would do its job. Let alone the cost of the illegal immigrants that manage to get through the Border Patrol, the Border Patrol alone is costing plenty. In an overview, some people believe that we are spending too much money on the border patrol, considering that they simply are not doing their job. We are giving them so much money to get the latest equipment, but still people are getting through. The people in favor of the Border patrol have the basic idea that, yes, the Border Patrol used to be ineffective, but now due to many improvements in federal money, manpower, and technology the Border Patrol is very effective.
